Ensuring Academic Success

Pinehurst School offers a structured, educational environment, governed by mutually determined, clearly explained, and consistently applied behavioural expectations. All academic courses offered by Pinehurst School focus on the development of academic skills and preparation of students for entry into community college and university. Courses are designed to encourage students to understand the theoretical principles, practical applications, and substantive content of each discipline. Academic excellence, communication skills, citizenship preparation, and social skills are essential components of these courses.

All students have opportunities to: expand their knowledge and understanding of their self; develop confidence in their individual potential to contribute to society; develop an understanding of effective social relationships; develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to make appropriate post-secondary school decisions; and explore potential careers in relation to themselves, educational alternatives, and their desired lifestyles.

All Grade 9 to 12 academic courses are ministry-inspected, and developed according to the requirements of the Ontario Ministry of Education.

In addition to regular school inspections by the Ontario Ministry of Education, Pinehurst School has successfully completed a full school review by the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools. During this review, all of the following areas were successfully evaluated:

  • Positive School Goals
  • Capable School Staff and Personnel Management Practices
  • Effective Teaching Practices
  • Open Disclosure to Families and Respect for Diversities
  • Financial Accountability Practices
  • Legal Compliance, Ethical Behaviours, and Co-operative Inter-School Spirit
